Chanel is breaking boundaries even further with a new edition in its Bleu de Chanel line: Bleu de Chanel Parfum.
This Parfum edition boasts a higher concentration than the original Bleu de Chanel (eau de toilette), which launched in 2010, and even its first flanker, Bleu de Chanel Eau de Parfum, which debuted in 2014. Bottles come in 1.70oz (50ml) and 3.4oz (100ml), a generous amount for a parfum scent, although being Chanel, the price tag will demand proportionately.
This is the first time in modern times that a major fashion house is releasing a parfum concentration of a flanker at a seizable volume. Other fashion houses may have released “eau de parfum intense”-s, but Chanel would be first to daringly dub their product a “parfum” directly.
This last couple of years has really seen a change in gender marketing. Eau de parfums used to be prevalently associated with women, so designers had to brand their flankers “eau de toilette intense” to appeal to men. Fast forward to 2018 and we actually have a 3.4oz parfum concocted specifically for men.
The new Bleu de Chanel Parfum retains the same design of the original bottle, except its lettering is now a prestigious gold, and I actually love how it looks. They didn’t reinvent the wheel. They enhanced it.
We won’t know what the scent is like until someone actually tries it, but Olivier Polge, the nose behind the first two Bleu de Chanels, added citrus peel into this parfum edition. Hopefully this amps up the freshness of the original eau de toilette, because the Eau de Parfum diminished its fresh accord in an ambush of smoky incense.
Bleu de Chanel was the second designer fragrance I ever purchased, having bought a 50ml bottle on eBay when I was 18, so I have a soft spot for this line. I own both the original and the eau de parfum, as well as the aftershave lotion and balm, so it’s no doubt I’ll be getting this one when it eventually ships to Chanel stores.
Bleu de Chanel Parfum is expected to launch worldwide in June, but it is already available to purchase on the American website.
